“Difficult Times Will Come”

1 But realize this, that ^ain the last days difficult times will come. 2 For men will be ^blovers of self, ^clovers of money, ^dboastful, ^earrogant, ^frevilers, ^gdisobedient to parents, ^hungrateful, ⁱunholy, 3 ^junloving, irreconcilable, ^kmalicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, ^{▼▼ Lit not loving good
,} ^mhaters of good, 4 ⁿtreacherous, ^oreckless, ^pconceited, ^qlovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 holding to a form of ^{▼▼ Or religion
,} ^sgodliness, although they have ^tdenied its power; ^uAvoid such men as these. 6 For among them are those who ^{▼▼ Or creep into
,} ^wenter into households and captivate ^{▼▼ Or idle
,} ^yweak women weighed down with sins, led on by ^zvarious impulses, 7 always learning and never able to ^aacome to the ^{▼▼ Or recognition}knowledge of the truth. 8 Just as ^acJannes and Jambres ^adopposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, ^aemen of depraved mind, rejected in regard to the faith. 9 But they will not make further progress; for their ^affolly will be obvious to all, just ^agas ^{▼▼ Lit that of those}Jannes’s and Jambres’s folly was also.

10 Now you ^aifollowed my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, patience, ^ajlove, ^{▼▼ Or steadfastness}perseverance, 11 ^alpersecutions, and ^amsufferings, such as happened to me at ^anAntioch, at ^aoIconium and at ^apLystra; what ^aqpersecutions I endured, and out of them all ^arthe Lord rescued me! 12 Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus ^aswill be persecuted. 13 But evil men and impostors ^atwill proceed from bad to worse, ^audeceiving and being deceived. 14 You, however, ^avcontinue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 15 and that ^awfrom childhood you have known ^axthe sacred writings which are able to ^aygive you the wisdom that leads to ^azsalvation through faith which is in ^baChrist Jesus. 16 ^bbAll Scripture is ^{▼▼ Lit God-breathed}inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for ^{▼▼ Lit training which is in}training in righteousness; 17 so that ^bethe man of God may be adequate, ^bfequipped for every good work.
